Melissa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo, after which she went on to pursue a Master’s of Social Work degree from Arizona State University. Melissa is also trained in level 2 EMDR therapy and has worked in administrative-level positions at residential and inpatient psychiatric hospital settings. She has also provided mental health and trauma therapy while working for the Department of Defense. Melissa had the opportunity to work in the majestic Chugach mountain range in Alaska in a substance-using disorder center; it was at this time she became impassioned to help individuals struggling with addictions. Given that Melissa has such diverse experiences related to the field of addiction and trauma, she brings a broad approach to the treatment and sustained recovery at Cottonwood, which she feels looks different for each individual. She has a deep appreciation for the different realms of thought regarding the treatment of addiction and trauma, which makes each person’s approach to treatment at Cottonwood more individualized to their needs. Melissa is committed to carrying on the high-quality therapeutic modalities attached to the Cottonwood name over the years, in addition to upholding the high-quality values of the clinical department.

In Melissa’s spare time, she enjoys getting to know the Tucson community with her family and exploring the beauty and wonder the desert has to offer.
