Outpatient Services for Addiction Treatment & Mental Health

Intensive Outpatient Program & Partial Hospitalization Program

What Are Outpatient Services?

Our outpatient substance abuse treatment and mental health services encompass a variety of treatment programs that allow individuals to receive care while living at home or in a supportive environment. Outpatient rehabilitation services are ideal for those who do not require intensive supervision or medical detoxification.

Types of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services

There are two primary types of outpatient services for drug and alcohol addiction treatment and mental health treatment:

  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

What Are Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)?

Intensive Outpatient Programs are designed to provide comprehensive treatment while allowing individuals to maintain their daily lives. Unlike traditional outpatient rehab, IOPs offer a more intensive level of support, making them ideal for those who need more than periodic counseling. Intensive Outpatient Program participants typically attend several hours of structured individual and group therapy sessions multiple times a week. This structure allows for a deeper exploration of the underlying issues contributing to addiction or mental health issues.

What are Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)?

Partial Hospitalization Programs are designed to provide intensive treatment while bridging the gap between inpatient and outpatient care, ideal for those needing comprehensive care but don’t require 24-hour supervision. PHPs are more intensive than IOPs. Participants may receive medical care, therapy, and support for several hours, five to seven days a week, while still being able to return home each evening. Partial Hospitalization Programs address mental health and substance use disorders through a combination of group therapy, individual counseling, and medication management.

What to Expect from Our Outpatient Services in Tucson, Arizona

Therapy is central to our Arizona outpatient services, providing individuals with the tools to navigate their recovery journey. Various therapeutic approaches are utilized to address the unique needs of each patient. While topics vary and rotate through treatment, patients receive cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on learning how to manage behavior and emotion.

Individual therapy

Individual therapy offers a safe and confidential environment for patients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This one-on-one approach allows for personalized support and the development of coping strategies tailored to the individual’s experiences.

Group therapy

In addition to individual therapy, group therapy sessions provide a supportive space for individuals to share their experiences with others facing similar challenges. This collective environment fosters connection, understanding, and accountability, which can be instrumental in the recovery process.

Family therapy

Beyond personal and peer support, family therapy plays a crucial role in the healing journey. By involving loved ones in the treatment process, this approach helps to address family dynamics, improve communication, and create a supportive home environment for the individual in recovery.

Other outpatient treatment approaches include:

  • Lectures and process groups about the stages of change, family systems, and boundary education
  • Discussions of 12-step concepts for addiction treatment and codependency recovery
  • Education about coping methods for depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD
  • Identifying triggers and managing impulsivity, along with exploring the costs and consequences of self-defeating behaviors

Engaging in IOP/PHP gives participants better long-term outcomes by preparing them to manage their own mental health and substance use disorders. In addition to teaching clients life skills like budgeting and community resource identification, they also learn coping mechanisms such as yoga, meditation, and recreation therapy.
